Since newborns are automatically enrolled in Prime, your baby will be assigned a military pediatrician. If the MTF does not have a pediatrics department, or they are unable to take new patients, then your baby may be given a family practice doctor instead. If Family Practice isn’t accepting new patients, your baby will get a referral for a civilian pediatrician.
If you would prefer to see a civilian pediatrician rather than a military one, you can switch your baby to Standard. The Standard coverage will start on the first day of the next month at which point you will be able to take your baby to the civilian pediatrician of your choosing. To switch your baby to Standard, visit the TRICARE office and a TRICARE service representative will give you the forms you need and file them with TRICARE for you.

I dread dealing with the military healthcare. I’m for civilian all the WAY! I love having rights.
Thanks for the overview!
thanks for this. I’m going to go with a civilian pediatrician.
I would like to hear more, can you expand?
All in good order
I can only speculate.
I dont know
Healthcare is hard to cover in terms of the military, no matter how hard you try. Healthcare is like spacetravel. It’s just freakin’ complicated.
Nice article. Thank you for this info
