Deployment is typically 5-6 months, not usually surpassing eight months. An I.A. or Individual Augmentation is a tour usually land based where a service member serves for 6 months to a year or more depending on requested or needed extensions. These are becoming more common as service member requirements to advance are becoming more demanding. The Navy hopes to have I.A. become a requirement of Sailors in order to advance or reenlist.
